To nourish through
intelligent interactions

Founded in 1987 by hairdresser Dennis Paphitis in Melbourne, Australia, Aesop values all human endeavours undertaken with intellectual rigor, vision, and a nod to the whimsical. Each of the company’s products is made with the same attention to detail Aesop believes should be applied to life at large, taking into consideration a diversity of needs as well as seasonal and environmental conditions. In addition to exploring and supporting the arts as an avenue through which to inspire, learn, and communicate, Aesop is committed to operating a sustainable business and to influencing positive social and environmental change.

Aesop aims to be an outstanding corporate citizen in each of the communities in which it operates. In addition to the company’s own actions, the Aesop Foundation partners with non-profit organizations in Australia to strengthen literacy and storytelling for communities in need, as well as those from socio-economically diverse backgrounds.

To reduce its environmental footprint, Aesop uses minimal packaging, avoids external cartons and plastic bags, and is committed to having all packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. As of 2020, 70% of Aesop plastic bottles are made from a minimum of 97% recycled PET. Aesop also continues to take climate action and target net zero carbon emissions, which in 2019 led to the offsetting of 10,550 tones of carbon emissions.

Aesop holds the Leaping Bunny certification from Cruelty Free International which assures consumers that no product or ingredients used by the company, or its suppliers, were tested on animals at any stage of development.

Looking ahead, Aesop is committed to becoming a certified B-Corporation and to be recognised as a business that is externally verified to balance purpose and profit, with a target to submit the company’s B-Corporation application before end of 2020.

Dennis Paphitis
Founder, Aesop

Aesop was born of a curious young man who was obsessed with quality, and deeply sensitive to the world around him. Dennis’s vision is manifested in every aspect of Aesop—from the quality of the ingredients used to formulate products, to the painstaking attention to detail evident in the design of each of the company’s stores around the world. Aesop has spawned many an imitation, which have served to demonstrate that while it may be possible to mimic Aesop’s outward character, its spirit cannot be pilfered or replicated.

Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash

This formulation can be purchased as a refill without a pump, minimising environmental impact by saving 12 g of plastic. Bottles are made from a minimum of 97% post-consumer recycled PET.

Sublime Replenishing Night Masque

An overnight redeemer enhanced with vitamins B, C, E and F. This formulation offers immediate and sustained hydration to balance skin and brighten its appearance.

Hwyl Eau de Parfum

Inspired by Japan’s ancient Hiba trees and lush temple moss gardens, Hwyl evokes a sense of refuge in nature through potent botanical extracts. The inclusion of Cypress leads to a warm and woody heart, while notes of Vetiver extract, Frankincense and moss effect an earthy sensuality and longevity.
