David H. McConnell was a pioneer of social progress. He was a visionary with a big idea to help women achieve financial independence through entrepreneurship and flexible working. It was a radical business model in 1886, when employment options for women were extremely limited. From a small New York City office, McConnell mixed the company’s first fragrances himself, and recruited a team of women to be Sales Representatives. The set of guiding principles he created are still at the heart of Avon today.
